I have a friend that gave me a large Pecan log, measures 9' 9" in length, and is about 18 to 20 inches straight through. It was cut last weekend, so it hasn't dried very much yet. My question is, would it be better to make bowl blanks or cut it for flat lumber? The ends look fine, no rot and it...
Well here it is after going to see Jack(saw4you) with Rob(rsitzejr) and his son Logan. There is also a bunch of other lumber and cants from Jack, including some Pecan, S. Maple and Cedar. We had a great time. It was interesting pulling the log onto the trailer with the winch, but it worked(sorry...

Beautiful walnut wood for sale- the log is approximately 8' x 2' Make an offer.
So, I emailed and asked:
When was it cut?
How quickly were the ends sealed and with what?
Is it being kept under cover?

Been wanting to build a wooden log caliper with international rule on one side and Doyle on the other. The caliper jaws would need to be about 3' long that way I could scale a 6' diameter standing tree. Would like board toot measurements for common log lengths (8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20)...
If you don't have access to a timber scale(I think thats what they are called), how can you estimate the board footage in a log by just the length/diameter dimensions?
I was told by a guy I work with that a friend of his has about 10 Oak logs that are 10-18' long and about 2' in diameter.
Does anyone know what a reasonable price for them would be?
:eusa_dancHi All, it's been awhile since I've posted here, been real busy lately. Anyhow, I have a bunch of red oak still in the log if anybody wants some please let me know. I'm gonna start sawing it next weekend so if you have any special cuts let me know.:-D
I have some walnut from 2 trees that I took down earlier this year. One was alive, the other had been dead for several year, and dried standing. The dead on was 16" across on the log I measured, and the live one was about 12". The problem I see is that the shortest log (the 16" diameter one)...
My new trailer and little 1/2 pickup handles a big log pretty well. Just have to make sure the trailer is good and tail heavy to save a little pickup spring for the ride home. Here's a 40" small end but log, can you guess what kind of tree it is and about how much it weighs? If this don't make...
