Nurse Log

While this looks like a path, it is actually a six-foot diameter tree on the ground. From where the photographer stands there is a good 60 more feet of tree behind her. The closest figure in the picture is 45 inches tall, and the one way in the back is over 6 feet tall. As a sawyer, there was little I could do to keep from drooling all over this place, but to my dissapointment, it is a national forest and no cutting is allowed : (
Note the volume of growth from the top of the log, in many places you can see saplings growing straight from the downed tree - hence the name, "nurse log".
