We closed on our new home Tuesday! the house is about 2,000 square feet. I get a large part of the basement for my shop. I estimate between 1,100 and 1,000 square feet. There is a set of Bilco doors to bring tools and wood in and out.

Our stuff is being delivered 11/8 and 9. I hope to build some internal walls and get an electrician in soon to run 110V outlets and a few 220V lines after that. This will be the largest space I have ever had. I do enjoy designing and build a shop! I will post pics.

Super space, Doug! Nice having a blank space template to design it just the way you want it.

Please keep us updated as you progress.

I am sure your shop will be a real "show place" and one of the "have to see shops" on the Shop Crawl tours you will be inaugurating.

Congrats. I enjoyed my basement shop in NY.
Didn't cost anything to heat and cool. Lol.

I am still working out where to put the internal walls. After I figure that out I will do the framing. I need an electrician after that nd then I will cover m the internal walls with plywood painted white. I am going to use strips of LED lighting that Bas showed me.

Nice looking space Doug! Don't forget to put in a floor too. Is there a sink somewhere in that space?
Since the ceiling is fairly low you may want to get the LED lights with the frosted cover, it'll be easier on the eyes. Too bad I can't help you with installing the dust collector!

Who moves to New York? Just kidding…..my sister lives in the Adirondack mountains outside East Berne. Very pretty country. Winters can be brutal.

Good luck in your new shop, as someone who moved from NJ to NC. 😆
I'm a retired electrician and looking at your panel it looks like you'll need a subpanel to add those extra outlets. Depending on what you do you want to have him add this subpanel in your shop space. This way you can reset breakers right in your space.

So all of our possessions have been moved into our new house. I was too tired to take pictures so I will try to add them tomorrow. Suffice it to say that nice clean basement looks like a tornado hit it. It is going to take me a long time to sort through stuff before I can plan and add the internal walls.

Actually all that necessary "clutter" would drive me nuts, so I see it as a great motivator. Having seen your NC shop I think you will be getting er done before you might now be thinking, Besides what are you going to do on the days when the snow gets NY deep?!!

I have been working my way through my boxes. I really need to plana nd build the internal walls. Once the studs are in place I will run the electrical and then put up plywood sheathing (which I like better than drywall). I will then hook up the air filter, Run the dust collection lines and add Lighting.

Here are some pics of the MESS!
