Yep - your 100% correct and that's why I suggested the heartwood of cypress in post 16.I've learned a lot about rot resistance on this project. Mostly that rot resistance is based on heartwood only and that sapwood is not considered rot resistant regardless of species.

I've been meaning to post "the book" on mills custom sawing but have not gotten around to it yet. "The book" is everything you would ever want to know about lumber and what lumber suppliers dont want you to know. It's a huge book and will take you a good month to read though and comprehend.
I'm sure I will make lots of "friends" when I do post "the book" and that's why I have been reluctant to post "the book". But you know I have never given a rats ### about what people think of me - so why start now?. I believe every woodworker should be able to educate themselves, dispite how ####ed off lumber suppliers may get. I was given "the book" many years ago by a fellow saywer who taught me the ropes about sawmilling with advise of using with caution.
"The book" is freely available via the US Government but like most things with the government you have to know what you are looking for and where to look. With "the book" you will be armed with knowledge to know when someone either simply doesn't know what they are talking about or trying to pull the wool over your eyes. For this reason "the book" should be used with caution.
Maybe the Fountain of Youth isn't a fountain at all. Maybe it's a way of looking at things. A way of thinking.
