wood for rolling pin

Hard maple, or beech. I have seen pins made with either. A real trick to tuning rolling pins is to use a router in a carriage mounted to the lathe bed, instead of gouges.

Anything hard and close grained. I've never turned one, but hard maple would be ideal.

I have some hard maple you can have if you can bring some chunks of walnut from Hendersonville when you do the sharpening workshop.

Mike Ill be glad to if I dont have to work. Verry nice examples of pins from all.I am thimking I might turn it as one piece . Any thought on this?

One piece is a lot easier to make. A little different to use. Better ask your wife what she likes.

I have one last piece of that tiger maple, it's yours if you can use it. May be a little short for a one piece. Have some more plain maple that will work fine just not as pretty.

Pick a day and I'll have a class for you, two days if you want. I really need to get that walnut moved if there's any chance you could help.
