The Shelix head has now been installed and working great. A friend came over and helped with the removal of the bearings and re-seating the bearings on the Shelix.

Overall the process was fairly straight forward and the process took about 2 hours total (this included going back to my friends shop the do the bearing removal/reinstall).

Thanks for the tips.

I have the Griz GO490 w/standard HSS blades and Santa just brought me a Byrd Shelix head for Christmas.

Now I'm an OK woodworker and not so familiar w/the gear-head stuff so...did anyone here do this conversion? And if so, what advice can you offer before I tackle this operation. I already e-mailed Griz and they have no instructions for the conversion.

Any help advice will be most appreciated. I don't plan to tackle this conversion until at least the 2nd or 3rd week of Jan-09 so I have some time.

Thanks,
Dan C.

Dan,
I remember reading a post on SMC covering that exact conversion.I'm sure you could do a search at the Creek or even ask for info.I remember the guy made a comment about having no documentation from Grizzly so he would be the person to talk to.Hope this helps.

Hey Guys,

Many thanks for the leads and I'm feeling a lot better about undertaking this conversion.

Merry Christmas to all.

PS...I'll post a status once I start and get this puppy up and working.
