I'd just tell him that it was inappropriate for the site and that some users may find it offensive.

Yup...even though I find it pretty funny...lol

You might want to ask him to delete it from his gallery as well. It's actually being hosted on N.C.WW.

I agree that a video regarding excretionary function is not appropriate here. From our policy guidelines:

2. We seek to ensure that guests and all members of their family are comfortable viewing site content. Every effort is made to monitor User names, avatars, signatures, biographies, and posts in pursuit of that goal.

I've sent the pm quoting what Glenn had said. I can send another re: the gallery if you think sending a second pm won't be irritating. Or you can remove it - let me know.

Cathy,

Glenn posted a good cut from our guidelines. I'd also include a quote or the guidance against posting offensive material. I'd tell Ernie that we have members and guests of all types and ages. This kind of film clip may be humorous to some and may well be offensive to others. I would also say that loading it to our library is inappropriate for the above reasons as well as the fact that it has nothing to do with woodworking; the complete focus of out website.

The clip should be pulled from our gallery.

Here is his first response to my pm:
Cathy,

I guess my sense of humor just is not a good fit for North Carolina Woodworker. I really don't care if you delete this post or not. This is my 3rd attempt at injecting a little humor to our site and there has been a problem with all of them - so, I guess it must be me. Personally, I think we're taking our sensitivities a bit far. If we're so concerned about "guests and all members of their family are comfortable viewing site content", then why was the following allowed. It sure made me uncomfortable. Do what you feel is right - I think I'll just stick to harpsichords from now on.

Cathy,

That is a rather defensive retort (on his part). He is out of line on the original post and the reply. You can not do things that offend others. That precedent has been set many times over; including by law, in the workplace. As a membership type of organization, we do have the right to establish reasonable standards for ourselves and our membership.

If his response is the end of it, then let it be. I offer the above only in support of the position you have taken. I suspect if we explain ourselves, more than we need to, we will only perpetuate the negative feelings and the fuss.

I thought it was rather defensive too. Can you guys just delete it from the gallery rather than fanning the fire by writing back and asking him

Thanks for the support.

Video deleted.

Its very rare that someone uploads a video and it gets moderated.

He has a history of dubiously moderated humor, so it goes....

Yep, I had to moderate Ernie once. It was an amazingly insensitive joke. If he don't get it, then maybe it's best if he moves on.

I doubt even Ernie would show that video to his granddaughter. It is adult humor and completely inappropriate for our site. I don't quite understand why he doesn;t realize that after getting moderated before. A joke might be fine, but it cannot offend anyone.

I wanted to share Ernie's pm to me today:

Apology
Cathy,

I want to apologize to you if my response to your moderation was gruff. Having suffered a frozen hot water pipe and having no hot water for two days, I was feeling somewhat uncharacteristically grouchy yesterday. I should have kept my grouchiness to myself and not taken it out on you. I know that you're doing a necessary, and thankless job as a moderator and we all appreciate the efforts you and your fellow moderators take to make North Carolina Woodworker the enjoyable site that it is. While I had hoped that the little video would bring a little chuckle to our membership in this cold and dreary time, I certainly meant no offense to anyone and would rather it be moderated than risk doing so.
Please forgive my thoughtlessness.

My 2 cents on.

If you have not already done so, Cathy I would send a short reply back the Ernie accepting his apology. We all have days like that. It is what we do to recover from these days that makes or breaks us.

My 2 cents off.
