If I needed to use this with a friend, I don't know whether I'd rather be the guy holding the trigger and likely to cut my friend or the guy just hoping not to get cut lending a hand?

That looks like a pulpwood saw. They don't get bound up in the tree like a regular bar. Problem is, if you cut it down too fast, you could end up with the tree still standing on the stump and the saw completely out of the wood!
