Roger, your cedar and maple box was my inspiration for the wood combination. Maybe you should bring something in to the TWA's show and tell:icon_thum Thanks for the kind words!

Dave,

At first I thought the turning bug had struck.

Even though it did not, your chest is nothing short of outstanding. I am in awe!

Great looking box Dave. That turned out very nicely. I hope you bring it Tuesday evening along with the jewelry box. It looks like I might be able to make it up there Tuesday night after all.......pending any last minute changes again that is.

Beautiful job on the box. Have you got an endless supply of curly maple?! Seems like a lot of your projects contain curly maple. Definitely like the way you use it though! I have to say I love what you do with that scrap wood. Keep up the great work. I love to check it out and try to learn something. Slow learner you know!

I just completed a project with curly maple that resulted in many mis-cut pieces and off cuts which has left me with a bunch of littler pieces to work with. Plus curly maple isn't all that rare to find in standard soft maple stock. I got a 8' by 12" wide 4/4 board a month or so ago out of a normal, non-figured stack of soft maple. Plus I just think it is cool:cool:

As everyone knows, I know nuttin'. But frankly, I love the smell and the look of raw cedar. I wouldn't finish it.

BTW, I have a whole bag of sawdust, shavings, etc plus small metal parts that got caught in my DC. What can you make with that,:rolf:

Steve, just add a few gallons of glue, pour the mix in to a suitable mold, add lots pressure and let it dry for a few days. Before you know it you will have a nice piece of particle board that you can then turn into more sawdust and shavings to refill your DC bag with again.

Dave, beautiful box, as are all the ones I have seen you make. You said you cut the base out with a bandsaw. Did you fine tune it with a router and template after the bandaw cut? Or did you just bandsaw it and sand it smooth or what? Again nice work.

I just band sawed a hair proud of the line (I worked out my design on some cardboard, and traced it onto the piece) and then sanded to the line with a sanding drum in the drill press. Making a template to make only two pieces, seemed more work than it was worth. But that method would have worked very well also. Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate the compliments!!!!
