Re: Table Saw - Can't Decide - Getting Serious Now - SOLD MY SAW

I think Bas' cost estimate is on the low end if you plan on having an electrician do it. I have never hired an electrician but for the house call it would be at least 60$ I would guess. And don't forget inspection. I think that is 40$ or so. Yes I realize that equal's Bas' estimate, I just wanted to point out the inspection as a cost as well.

I ran a new panel to my garage (90 amp feed) and did all the work with a friend. Cost was ~600$ in parts. But I bought extra wire (added at least 100$ to the figure) and wired 3 220v and one 110v circuit.

Re: Table Saw - Can't Decide - Getting Serious Now - SOLD MY SAW

I sold my saw this morning so it is getting serious. Now, I am considering the G0690, the G1023RLW, and the SawStop Contractor Saw. I know the SawStop isn't in the same league. But, I do like the break feature. It has a riving knife and excellent dust collection. The mobile base is really nice and, I wouldn't have to deal with getting 220V in my shop. I have seen the SawStop at Klingspores and I like it. I need to be able to move the saw around. Here are some questions:

1. Do we get 10% off on SawStop stuff at Klingspores?

2. What would it cost to do the wiring for 220V? I have a box in my shop with room for more breakers.

3. How easy would it be to move one of the Grizzlys around with a mobile base?

I would personally not buy the SawStop contractor's saw. Sure it probably is the best contractor's saw made but I _hate_ squaring adjusting the trunnions on this type of saw. And _maybe_ they have figured out how to do dust collection with the motor hanging out the back but I would not count on it. Also the footprint of a contractor's saw is larger than a cabinet saw (that motor thing again).

If you want a sawstop I would say go for their cabinet saw.

As for moving a 600lb saw: it should not be too bad IF you have large enough castor's and/or a smooth surface without any extension cords all over the place. I personally find it a pain to move any table saw around.

No, power tools are generally not included in the discount program. I hear the standard fence on the SS contractor saw isn't that great, so figure that into the price.

I think it matters which fence you get. The "T-glide" fence is supposedly very nice.

Re: Table Saw - Can't Decide - Getting Serious Now - SOLD MY SAW

I have obsessed about this for three days now. I think I have decided on steak - the G1023RLW. I could get 2 more hp for another hundred bucks. But, I don't think I'd ever need it.

A friend of mine is an electrician and he is going to hook up the electricity for me.

I am going to rest on it for a couple of days but I am pretty sure this is what I am going to get.

Sounds great. If they had the "R" series when I bought my 690 I would have probably bought it for the dust shroud. Let us know how the router table turns out too. When I bought my G0690 they did not have a router table for it yet. They have one now but Steve Cole gave me his hand-me down (which is nicer than any table i have ever owned!).

I used to have a 1.5 HP Jet contractor's saw and I do notice the increase in power. I haven't run anything over it yet that slowed it down at all.

You'll be very happy with that saw. A friend who is an electrician is a wonderful thing!

As a proud owner of a Grizzly G1023SLX, I can say that I think you'll be very happy with one of those.

I am with you on the riving knife. A splitter is nice, but a riving knife is better at least to me.

Both are good saws

That G1023SLX with sliding table is not a good deal at $1100. A new one is less than that! The system is probably not quite aligned, or binding, so the owner is selling it. A sliding table is nice, but only if fitted probably. The Grizzly sliding table would probably be a better match.

I have the G0690 and it is nice. The riving knife is worth the extra few dollars. Due to military moves, I have had a Unisaw and G1023SLX, and now a G0690, and all are nice saws, but the G0690 is the best one of the bunch. I am hoping it is my last saw. Once again, after spending 30 years using smaller, low quality contractors saws, I wonder why I waited so long to get a cabinet saw.

Good luck with your research.

Re: Both are good saws

So Michael When will you buying this new saw?

I have been selling some things I don't need / use to fund the table saw purchase. I sold the Veritas Small Plow Plane, the Ridgid Table Saw, and a trolling motor. I have a set of golf clubs I bought my wife (she got new ones for Christmas) and a shotgun or two left to sell and I will be ready to take the plunge!

I am reorganizing my shop so I am not in a huge hurry. Plus, I know that as soon as I buy one, the deal of the century will come up on Craig's List...

My only frustration concerning my 1023SLX is that Grizzly came out with the G690 six months after I bought the 1023. :BangHead: I'd have gladly paid the extra hundred dollars or so for it.

My only regret with my G691 is that they came out with the 1023R series 2 months after I bought mine :). But it is nice to see vendors improving their tools.
