To all of the powers in the know:gar-Bi,

Is there a way that we can the "Found for hot deals" column so that it can be viewed only by members ? I think it would be advantageous, especially when things from Craigslist or one day specials are concerned.

Thank Tou,
Jimmy:mrgreen:

That could be done but I don't see what would be gained. Any listing posted here from Craigs List is already out to the public, and most "one day specials" are from local merchants and are also available to all already.

Dave,
I beg to differ, alot of things that I bring in from Craigslist are either fresh or in columns that people don't look (general items or odd locations) and as far as specials go, there are alot of times that our members find something at a Borg or some other store marked at clearance and post it. Also, I've tried getting in on some internet specials that have been sold out.

Right now(@6:39pm) there are 18 members and 40 visitors online using our website. That is more than a 2 to 1 disadvantage for us.

Jimmy I see your point, but also consider that at 8:05pm there are 18 members, 18 guests (only 2 that are in NC, and a few folks going proxy that I can't determine their location) and 33 search engine spiders or bots.
So when you see guests very few of them are in any position to steal the deals.
Keeping that forum open to the public might help to entice guests into joining as they see what a benefit this site can offer.

I agree Dave. Getting deals from Craigs List is a matter of luck and patience. Never under estimate how many folks are out there looking for great deals. Many "bulletin board" sites for woodworking and non-woodworking interests cite Craigs list postings . . . and some of them include national "pony express" forums. IMHO, NCWWer "Hot Deals" listing has little impact on one's chances of snagging a good deal.

I understand what everybody is saying, so on that note I will say that I'm not going to post under that category anymore because it just seems like the only thing that my posts to it do is waste space.

Thank you all,

Does that mean you will not post deals you find? Or you just wont post them in the "Hot Deals" forum?

Doug if I'm being told that people look all over and will find the deals anyway then I probably won't post again unless I find something in an obscure place.

I understand. My philosophy is as follows:

If it is something I want I don't post it. (Pretty obvious). I call and then run like heck. That is how I got my Penn State Cyclone.

If it something I don't want, but I think is a good deal, I post it here. I hope that an NCWWer will get it if they need it. Their chances will be higher if I do. If a non-NCWWer gets it through the cite, well no harm no foul in my eyes.

As for specials at local Lowes etc. I haven't found any yet, but if nobody posted them I wouldn't even have a chance at them.

BTW I would never have learned about the Hegner Scroll Saw down near Wilmington if someone had not posted it here. The seller has not replied, but I remain hopeful. :eusa_pray

Jimmy, I disagree with everybody. I think when you post a good deal, it is great for us. I think, it does provide us a leg up on many things. And I hope you will continue posting the.

That being said, you have a very good point about making that forum private. But, right now, I can't do it because it would set a precedent that I am not willing to do at this time. We are in the process of incorporating as a "non-profit". I don't want to change our image as a "open" forum for any woodworker to read.

Later, when the process is further a long, we will probably be changing a lot of things.
