LOML pointed out article in December Southern Living (at least that's my version and I'm sticking to it) about Wilmington woodturner Ron Vavra who focuses on distressed wood. Another in-state WOW 8-O

No doubt others are familiar with his work, I was clueless. Anyway, check out the article under Carolina Living section or his website, awesome work--

I have never turned anything out of distressed wood. Ok.. I've never turned a bowl. But...... it seems to me, like you stand a spectatcular chance of "exploding" that blank when you come to one of those holes?

That is amazing stuff. Talk about taking trash and making a treasure out of it. I wonder how many hollow forms expolde on him for everyone that works out right?

According to the SL article, he does have a lot of explosions and some that fail to meet his quality standards
They are kept in a separate pile and folks plead to purchase them, but he refuses. :eusa_naug

My standards aren't quite that high
