Hi Y'all, here is a small stand that I made for my Mom. It is 12"x12"x16&5/8"t. She wanted a small stand to set her phone on beside her chair in the living room. It is made with all 5/8" solid maple and it will hold me setting on it and at around 230lbs I think it might hold her phone. Steve

Steve, that looks great. It looks like Maple for at least the legs and stretchers. But two of the pictures of the top don't look like Maple to me. The last picture does. So spill the details.

Hi Dave, this is from wood that came into the cabinet factory that I worked for. It was because of the color that we could not use it in our cabinets. Some of this wood would pass for cherry and a lot of it came from China. It is maple and when you look at it from different angles it really shows an orange color. Personally I like the character of the wood and the color better than a super clear piece of maple. Steve

The phone stand looks very good.:thumbs_up
That was my first thought when I first saw it, that the wood look's like it was from china.

It is a nicely proportioned piece, but I agree with DaveO that the top wood doesn't look like maple to me -- more like the colors and grain I've seen in birches. Nonetheless, your Mom will be very pleased with the piece.
