Rust Alert for 1/21/12 in the Piedmont

It is 48f with a 44 dewpoint tonight in the Charlotte and Piedmont. Forecast is calling for 60f with a rising dewpoint for tomorrow. If you are not heating your shop above ~55f tonight and tomorrow morning keep it closed. Your cold Cast Iron will condense water like a glass of Ice Tea in August if you open it up tomorrow afternoon and it is below the Dew Point.

Turned the heat on this morning to get temp above dew point. It worked.

Thanks Bruce! I used my IR thermometer on my cast iron this morning. I was in the green but still turned on the heater for a few hours to be sure .

Just an FYI with regard to IR thermometers and reflective surfaces. When you aim an IR thermometer at a reflective surface (such as polished cast iron) you don't actually record a temperature for the reflective surface. Rather, you record the temperature of the surface being reflected off the reflected surface (such as a ceiling or wall).
