Dear Peter, I'd like to personally thank you for being a loyal customer of our Rockler Woodworking and Hardware store location in Greensboro. Unfortunately, the Greensboro store will be closing on January 15, 2007.

Beginning Dec. 26, all items in stock will be sold at 20% OFF regular price. Larger discounts may be offered on large quantity hardware purchases, so see the store manager for details.

Be sure to stop by the store between now and January 15 to find deals you most likely won't see again.

And just about the time I get situated to start using the store more, guess we will have to head over there in the next couple of weeks and get the deals and pay our condolances. :crybaby2:

And I thought they were doing well. Every time I've been in there (not real often, but then it's over an hour's drive each way) there was always at least two or three other customers in. They had even taken over the space next door for a wood showroom. Sorry this is happening.

I will miss them. Each month we go to WS to see wife's soon to 96 year old aunt(Dec 30th). Trip always includes a stop at Rockler. Also go over at lunch from Carolinas Wood Expo in Feb.. Their sale prices were hard to beat. Glad I got a chance to shop there. Always had the best prices on Kreg Pocket Screws. Of course with the internet, it is hard to compete on prices. We look locally and then order from lowest price vendor (Amazon?). I resemble this remark. Same thing is happening to the Wood Working Shows.

We can still order from their catalog. As much as I like going directly to the store and shopping.Sometimes the drive is too long.

I liked it! Even LOML enjoyed checking out the wood section. And they expanded only a few months ago :eusa_doh:

I never made it to that store, but I have bought from Rockler online before.

Wish they were in Charlotte ... now that would be nice (at least for me!) :eusa_thin

I went there this morning. It was a shock to me. I go to the store at least once a week, and has spent more than a thousand bucks there on power tools, hinges, finishing supplies and clamps, etc. Sorry to see them go. I was told there would be more discounts in the coming days.

I went there today myself. It was my first time going with the distance and all. I can say it was pretty sad and the employees are pretty shocked and upset. They all suggested sending email to Rockler corporate about it. I can say I was pleasantly surprised at the quantity and variety of items they stock.

Some of the discounts have changed. They now have 30 percent off on all books and Amana router bits, 50 percent off on veneers, and I believe 10 percent off on power tools.

I seemed to have satisfied my disease. Picked up some books, a nice six piece carving set, and some odds and ends.

I would have thought they would have been in direct competition with Woodcraft and Klingspor, but after visiting the store, I can see that is really not the case. They stock so much hardware, jigs, accessories and stuff that neither of the other two do that it would have seemed to me they had a good niche market in the Piedmont area.

Well, I sent a note to Rockler asking why they were closing the store, I have no idea if I will get a reply. One thing I thought about asking for it free shipping or some other discount on stuff for all of us in NC since THEY took the store away from us. :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

considering they recently added space to the store, I have to believe that there are other reasons than local store performance which are causing them to cease local operations... I wouldn't be surprised if others are being closed, too. I am sure the ones in the largest markets are safe, but in speaking with a local WW store GM, these organizations often look for markets with a local population of at least 1 million within a certain radius. Considering there are two other similar operations within the general area, (more if we include the Hickory concern) I am sure that margins were slim at best, even if it felt like we were paying too much for the product.

An advantage to consider, this may mean that some other operations in the market may now have a stronger reason to stay in the market.

just some rambling, poorly explained thoughts from a business major...

We need to rally and send emails to Rockler to express our disappointment. Maybe they will change their minds. I was just told by a customer support rep to email orders@rockler.com to express our disappointment and the emails would be forwarded to the appropriate people. It is worth a shot.

Hmmm, Rockler Greensboro is a NCCWWer :icon_thum

Noticed you were online today and we are anxious to have your input. As many have posted in this thread we would really miss the store. Great prices, great sales, and products that other woodworking retailers didn't offer :eusa_clap

Please join in

Dear Woodworking Friends,

Ken Logwood here, manager of Your Rockler store.

The depth of you dissapointment in our closing is almost as close to mine. I appreciate your good wishes for the future for my staff and myself; rest assured, we will all be fine. I will find a new income source -- and soon. A hope of mine is that it will be as enjoyable as the last 2 1/2 years servicing you folks.

"Why are we closing?" is the predominate question. Answer: All I can say is some numbers work, and some numbers don't.

Let me also say that while you all are angered at losing such a wonderful source that feeds your passion for craftsmanship with nature's plentiful bounty -- WOOD !!-- you really still have THE resource. The presence of Rockler will continue to be alive through the internet site and the catalogs you receive very frequently. Rockler is a great company and is largely defined by its innovative nature. Please stay tuned in for products designed to make your woodworking experience an even greater pleasure. Products designed BY Rockler and only available FROM Rockler. No one else has such an innovative mindset. NO ONE.

In closing, let me offer a HOPE. So many of you have offered that you loved to shop with us because the service you received from our competitors was lacking. That is the most gratifying thing I will take with me from my time running your favorite woodworking store. Because as a merchant, the only real "thing" I can do is to make you feel good about your experience. Most everything else is out of my hands.

I HOPE the competition we leave behind will learn that.

Thanks to all of you,

GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK !!

I stopped there today on my way back from a 1-day visit to our son and his fiance in Kittrell (north of Wake Forest) and an overnight at our daughter's in Apex. I picked up two books at 30% off, a 12" hook ruler and a replacement Micro Adjuster for my Kreg Bandsaw fence, both at 20% off. Saved over $16. Manager there was very disappointed that the corporation decided to close this store after 2-1/2 years (it is not a franchise; corporate owned and they only see the bottom line). Discounts on veneer are best. Store will close for good after end of sale on January 15th.

Ken, thanks for your help in explaining the situation. It is very sad for all of us who have shopped there and grown comfortable with your staff. You all will be missed and best of luck in the coming year.

Ken,

Are these sales in your store available via the net? A lot of us are a little too far away to take advantage otherwise. I only had one occasion to visit your location as we don't venture that far very often but was pleased at the selection and service by your staff.
