Preferred solid wood to work with

I enjoy working with either cherry, walnot or Mahogany (Sapele) I find it very easy to machine & work with. Has a former millwork guy, I've worked with about every type imaginable. Putting stop flutes in hard maple, even with a plunge router, miss me with that, trying to get the burn mark out at the end, sanding endlessly to get it out and keeping the profile?? Nah...LOL. Maybe I was doing wrong all these years.

I miss Walnut and Cherry, here in Hawaii. But, we have Milo, Sugi Pine (a Cypress), Pheasant wood, sometimes Hinoki Cedar, and tons of Mahogany's. Notice I did not mention Koa- it's a nice wood but over rated and expensive.
