I also agree with the posting of bad, as well as good, dealings with companies. After all, that is exactly the type of info that people come to some sights for. I personally have a total distrust of companies that customer ratings for themselves and nothing is ever bad. I think that Dick's post was fine and he should have said the name of Dynamic Saw right from the beginning, there have sure been enough things said good about them, using their name. He wasn't bashing anyone, just venting about a bad transaction that he had.

I personally use Raleigh Saw and haven't had any problems with them, but I would post, and switch sharpeners, if I did. I have had no problem saying how good they have been and would have none saying something if dealings went South. In all fairness, management should be contacted when there is a problem, because a chance of a rogue employee, but if the problem is not settled in a proper manner then something else should be done.

In a business/customer relationship, businesses should treat customers the same way as they, personally would like to be treated.

Some very good points. Seeing what a company does well, and the areas in which it could improve are quite valuable. I also see nothing wrong in sharing your EXPERIENCES with a particular company / vendor. Stating what service / goods you were trying to obtain, what happened and where they fell short or excelled is quite useful. It isn't necessary to address the company / vendor as an entire entity, but just share your experience. If you don't make any value judgments about the company, but just relay the details of your transaction, then you will be just fine.

As with any of us on the forum, a company / vendor can have an off day, or perhaps get caught doing something extraordinary. Neither scenario may be the norm. But the more we hear, the more informed decision we can make.

Well stated, Rick. For those of us old enough to remember the TV series "Dragnet", it reminds me of the line made famous by Jack Webb: "Just the facts, Ma'am!"

Not only do I remember the TV series - I also listen to its predecessor radio show on XM radio! Guess that REALLY dates me!

I really don't think it takes a genius to figure out the vendor.

I don't really have a dog in this fight except to say that looking in an industrial reference guide, there are 25 sharpeners listed in the Buffalo area with 4 being in Buffalo proper.

I am for any feedback on a vendor of interest to the group if done in a civil manner and when it names the vendor. To me one of the biggest problems on the internet in general is that it is so very easy to be anonymous in posting rants and/or raves on any forum or site. This can lead, and has led, to false information being circulated without any basis in fact. For information to be helpful it must be specific in all aspects of the case including poster (as was done here) and target (as was left out here).

Either the vendor's name should be posted or this whole thread should be deleted.

BTW, a few years ago I bashed a local company (not woodworking related) on this BB for their strong arm (at the time) business practices when someone was looking for a recommendation. The moderator(s) saw fit to edit my entry and eliminate the company's name. Its their BB and they make the rules. No big deal.

I'm for letting the 'chips fall where they may' be it good or bad feedback. I've been saved a few times by searching the web for vendor names and reading various feedbacks. This was on thousand dollar+ purchases.

Why would you even post anything if you aren't going to say who it is? If you want to vent to someone but not give details tell your spouse. This is absolutely pointless, other than getting people frustrated. What is the difference if you tell people, you think the company may get mad at you? Oh no, what will you do? If they are good or bad and you feel like writing about it, then say who it is or don't write it. It is just silly to even get everyone stirring over nothing. If I am missing something let me know but I guess I just don't understand why this thread was even started, because it doesn't help anyone out who reads it.

ditto, especially when the last line says Do not use these people so I reread it to see if I missed the company name.

But I think members should know when there is an unscrupulous vendor out there. Do not use these people!

I don't knowingly use unscrupulous venders. :dontknow: I don't buy magazines. I don't ship saw blades off to be sharpened.

Yeah, my post is pointless too. :rotflm:

While online reviews of products and businesses can be very beneficial I think this review has run it's course. Therefore I'm closing the thread.
