nothing to do with the finish but I would be interested in a basic concept of what your "“senior” Adirondack chair" will look like structurally

The idea struck me when we rented an airbnb here during our transition from So FL. There were some Adirondack chairs available for guests. Somewhat comfortable seated, but it felt like I was in a Pilates class trying to get out of the thing. Not fun with low back issues. So I started thinking about alternatives. I found a few simple patio chairs designed for using cushions which I started to use to create my own design. But not really great for sitting with a wet bathing suit since no way to drip off anywhere. Then I saw one YouTube video on a more upright adirondak and a couple on barstool types so it got me to thinking I might be able to make one that could be both more upright and used with or without cushions.

I’m not fast at building these days. Once it’s done, I’ll post the dimensioned dwg with a pic. I’m currently tweaking the seat so chair can be used with or without cushions and remain comfortable. It’s basically a 4 legged patio chair with Adirondack style seat. The back only tilts about 10 deg, but I may change it to 15. The seat is fairly level with the only slope created by the curve. Rather than the low slung type, the seat height is at 16-1/2” so a 3” cushion compressed should be around 18” - these both feel good for me and my wife. We are not very tall at 5’6”. I’m working out seat depth and think I’ll go with 20” so a cushion would end up around 18-1/2” when it’s compressed, but I need to confirm 20” is ok without cushion.

I got some odds and ends of construction lumber so I can build a prototype at little cost. At least it’s kiln dried and heat treated and been inside garage for almost a year - not ideal but free and good enough for the prototype.
