Old project. Looking to make a new one

I made this for my mother in-law ( She loves chickens, and has most any chicken that I’ve found in stores, so made it as a Christmas president) a couple of years ago. I’m looking to make a new one. I saw some lumber at a saw mill that I visited the other day that inspired me to make another one. The wood was ambrosia maple with some red tinting in the wood.

I was wondering if there were any design changes you would make to this cabinet, or other ideas.

It's pretty inhumane to keep a chicken in such a small enclosure.

It looks nice even if the chicken isn't free range.

My first inclination would be to make the parts a little thinner for no bigger than the cabinet is. The sides of the case could be 1/2 in. or 5/8 in. thick at most. Save with face frame and door frame parts. I would consider more rustic hinges to go with the chicken wire.

Maybe put the chicken in a shadow box frame so some storage can be utilized in the cabinet?
