A bit far for me to go!

If anyone hasn't downloaded and messed around with SketchUp, you are really missing out! I had been wanting to try it for a long time but just never got around to it until recently. I was working on an article about my assembly table, which needed some drawings, which I just couldn't see doing with pencil and paper. I have forgotten what little I knew about AutoCad (my version is not really 3D), so a few days ago I decided to downloaded the free version of Sketchup. Why did I wait so long?!?!?!?!? After some playing around and watching a few of the instructional videos on YouTube I was able to do these drawings of my table legs. I am still a rookie and have a lot to learn, but what a great program!!

(These pics were all "captured" from the same drawing- the object was just reoriented between images.)

Hey Alan,

I thought you wanted my help with SketchUP? Instead, it looks like I could use yours. Nice job!

I almost called you yesterday!!!

I am still having problems with components- how to group elements and create, edit, and make them temporarily disappear, etc. I seem to be able to get it done, but more by accident than design. I was just about finished with the latest version of the legs but there was an open area; I figured a line segment was somehow missing but it took me forever to find and figure it out. I finally zoomed in very, very, closely and found the missing part. I wish there were more online video tutorials. I have watch some of them a half dozen times. I haven't had time to browse the SketchUp forums.

So, be prepared, you are not off the hook yet!!! You woke a sleeping giant! :icon_thum

Alan,

Good morning, sleeping giant. It is a fun program - and annoying at the same time. Are you using layers? If not, take a look at them (you'll find Layers in the Windows toolbar.) Very handy things. You can design part of your project, save it as a layer, and make it appear or disappear at will.

jeff...

One day I decided I would build my wife a house :) It was easy... there was someone elses work already on the sketchup site. So I grabbed it, made a few mods and poof I built a house.
