I'm in the process of adding an ACCESSIBLE cut off water valve to our rental. Current valve is in crawl space. Piping is copper (circa 1990.) Connections are all soldier.. Thursday, last joint leaked, which meant remove it and soldier in a new elbow. Only problem is there isn't enough room for tubing cutter. Out comes HF multitool, which made quick work of sawing pipe in half so it could be removed. Pipe was full of water, so couldn't use torch. Of course end of piece that I need to save looks like it was cut with a chainsaw. Remembering that 3/4" copper pipe is actually 7/8" OD, I took a piece of 2X4 and drilled a 7/8" hole in it. Then on table saw, cut thru center line of hole, and about an inch past hole. Slide 2X4 over pipe, and using a "C" clamp, clamped it shut on pipe. Used 2X4 as a guide to get a straight cut on existing pipe using multitool, cut pipe off square. Reamed inside of pipe using a pair of Kliens (AKA side cutters,) and devburred outside using slip joint pliers so coupling would slide over pipe. It worked like a charm!
