This may be my favorite character in the scene. Eye not inserted yet.
Hair braids are wenge - 38 pieces.
Skin - walnut sapwood.
Lips - Padauk.
Jewelry - yellow heart.
Collar - basswood.

Joe, your work is exquisite on both the micro and macro levels. I can understand why this lady may be your favorite; personally, I would have a hard time deciding on a favorite. I find myself being intrigued by some very small, but mesmerizing, details - such as the glint in the dogs eyes.

Joe, faces are the hardest things to do in intarsia but you nailed it. Great job my friend.

Are you using a scroll saw or CNC?
I use a CNC to cut the parts out. Then chisels, knives and (a bunch) of sanding for the bas-relief sculpting.
Here's a line drawing created from my pencil sketch and the layout of the parts on the stock.
