Michael, I suspect that New York costs, and North Carolina costs, for a similar sized project would not be very comparable. Ironically, here in the carolina's, especially Fayetteville, where things are generally cheaper than up north (the Adirondack's, right Chris?) I think we would pay about a 10-20% premium on building materials, because of all the new home construction in Cumberland county and surrounding areas. In northern New York, new homes are the rare item, new snow-plows for your 4X4 truck, OTOH....

That's a very good point Pete. I know that from a transportation perspective alone, gas in upstate NY is currently about $0.60/gallon higher. But then again, with all of us yankees moving south, the building market up there borders on non-existant. So I really have no idea how prices would compare. I tried to compare dimensional lumber prices on line at Lowes and HD for both places, but couldn't make it work.
