We have had a tremendous amount of interest expressed in the proposed North Carolina Woodworker hand screw manufacturing event, with over 32 members indicating that they would like to participate.
Our next steps are to negotiate the best prices for the hardware kits used to make the hand screws, to mill and dry wood necessary for the blanks (for those who are not providing their own wood), and to set aside a weekend this upcoming February for the actual event.
For evaluation purposes, I have ordered several handscrew kits from Shop Fox (Grizzly), Jorgensen, and Dubuque Clamp Works. Both the Jorgensen and Dubuque kits are manufactured in the US, and representatives from both company’s have indicated that they would extend a price break to us for our event. Once that all of these kits have been received, a comparison can be made with prices added so that our members can choose which kit manufacturer that they would like to utilize for their clamps. Sometime next week I'll be able to post some comments regarding the comparison's between the different kit manufacturers.
A survey has been created (thanks Jim!) that will provide us with the information that we need in order to determine kit quantities, mill wood for blanks and select a weekend that works best for everybody. If you plan on participating, please take a moment and fill the survey out (link below).
Thanks much!
Scott
