It seems to me we've had this discussion before but in reviewing 4 pages I didn't see it.

First ad I see when logging on was " Jesus Prayer". Then when I checked out my forum there was
" May we pray for you?" Out of curiosity I clicked on it. It goes to some religious site.

Not what this site is about, breaks all specific religion expression rules and needs not to be shown here.

Barb,

I suspect it occurred when the Prayer request for TracyP's Mom was up since Google uses content-sensitive ads -- I just tested it and although it didn't show a religious ad at the top, the bottom banner ad was to a group called prayer.org. The only way I think that religious ads can be eliminated is to disallow terms like "prayer" in titles; there may be other methods at the programming level, but I think it would be difficult.

From what little I know, Google triggers on words or titles in the posts.

If it is the right thing to do, I can go into google and block praryer.org from showing up. As for the online dating one, not sure what is driving that.

As long as we allow religious ads we are contrary to the rules of this site. Do whatever or do nothing. If we have members, and i know we do, that are not of the majority "faith" here I doubt they will speak up. That's what mods are for.

I think it should be blocked. It is fairly innocuous, but as Barbara said, the NC WW policy explicitly prohibits the discussion of religion, politics etc. We'd also block any ads from political parties, so this is no different.

As for dating sites - I don't see the harm in that. I doubt the advertisers get their money's worth advertising here on NC WW though...if it doesn't involve tools or lumber, this bunch isn't interested :)

Block it.

Ahem, well I think we should vote on it.

OK, I really think they are inappropriate. :gar-Bi I found the dating ones, THERE ARE A LOT OF THEM, but I cannot find the prayer ones. I will have to check again once the dating ones get filtered out.

It takes awhile for these feeds to update so if they are still up tomorrow someone please post a response in this thread to let me know as a reminder.

As for the ads in general, I forget about them at times.....:embaresse I saw the dating ones and thought someone needs to take that off as it is inappropriate never thinking that I am the one that controls that.

Anytime one pops up that is inappropriate please start a thread and I will block them.

As it clearly violates our policies and if it had been p[osted in a thread by an individual it would have been moderated, I do not think a vote is required. Anyway this is moot as enough BoD members are in favor of blocking these ads. ( BTW:I know you are being humorous.)

Although I do not disagree with blocking these ads I can see where it would be logistically challenging. During the recent VA elections I saw ads for gubernatorial canidates but kept silent thinking it was something we could not block. I agree that our ad content restrictions should match our post content rules and now that I know blocking is possible I will report inappropriate ads. :wsmile:

We can block ads on the ad groups or by the actual advertiser (domain name). For the dating service it was all ads from eliteservices.com so that was easy.

I still haven't found any prayer ads..... Strange.... I remember seeing them briefly. Maybe they expired.

As I said in my earlier post here, just look at the Google Ads at the top and bottom of the page when you open this thread. They key off the first word in the Thread, which is "Prayer".
