As the father of a blonde haired daughter who graduated Magna *** Laude from the oldest engineering university in the western hempisphere I am somewhat intolerant of such jokes.

These jokes usually snowball & pick up a lot of trash on the way downhill. That's why I brought it up.

Wow...wasn't expecting this much questioning over pulling this one....

Here's the PM's that have been traded back and forth....

Mark,

Some members may find the joke offensive. I know of several very accomplished blond's (and their fathers) that do not find these kinds of jokes funny or entertaining at all.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me further.

Best Regards,
Phillip

I am still not understanding what part of the quoted policy was violated by the joke I posted.
Could you possibly be more specific?

Thanks,
MarkE

Hi Mark,

I'm sorry I didn't PM you sooner, when I went to unapprove your thread it told me that I hadn't selected an active topic. There were a couple of other moderators viewing that forum at the same time I was and I thought they might have pulled it.

Per the moderation, the joke violates the site policies. The policy is directly quoted below.

  • Personal attacks by name or implication
  • Harsh or offensive comments
  • Argumentative behavior
  • Profane, Vulgar, or Obscene Language or any representation of such language.
  • Political content.
  • Religious content.
  • Controversial topics of any form except, of course, woodworking.
  • Sexual content or innuendo, no matter how mild
  • Illegal activities of any sort
  • Posted links to prohibited material.
Thanks for your continued activity on N.C.WW, it's what makes this site what it is!

And his last response

t sounds like this may be a personal issue for you and, that's ok. I also know quite a few very accomplished blonds (and their fathers). One of those blonds is the one that sent the joke to me.

I see nothing in the policies you quoted that applies to this joke, but I will try refrain from posting any further jokes that may possibly offend another member. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to say (or post) anything these days that doesn't offend at least one other person.

Thanks for your time.

I'm not sure I'm going to respond to this one.....mainly b/c it seems as though it would be pointless.

Since you've opened the dialogue with him, Philip, you might respond with my comment that these threads tend to snowball & pick up dirt as the go downhill. JMTCW

I've gotten to know MarkE from the new member chats, he's a little "rough" around the edges. He's also new, so he doesn't know bout the history from which we decide.

You might just tell him one of our blind members took offense... (Sorry, I'm a natural blond).

BTW -- I fully agree that this one should have been moderated as it is offensive to some people -- that's our call and we should stick to it since his sources are irrelevant.

Glad you guys saw it before me. As a child I had very blonde hair. It's faded over the years, much like I have, but it's still in there somewhere.

Silver threads among the gold here, too Cathy. Rather it turn gray as turn loose.

Definitely. I promised my hair if it would come back after my chemo and stay attached I'd not color it, including hiding the gray.

Looks like I missed all the excitement on this one...

I agree. This is one that should be closed up. I have a blond daughter and a blond wife. If our friend doesn't think this is covered by the policies, the line about "offensive " should be pointed out.

I'm in agreement with Dennis.

MIL went through that in '08. I buzz cut my hair to make her feel less self conscious, but it didn't help my looks & didn't make her feel any better. Was a lot less maintenance for me, though. Get you a red hat!:eusa_danc

Fortunately I went through all that in 1992. I remember asking my husband (not current LOML) to shave my head (of the remaining hair) - he was so afraid I'd regret it. He didn't offer to shave his. You're a good hubby!
