Check out this pic of my planing fun the past Monday night.....

The setup? While hanging out with my friends in the HOW Meetup, I took a card table outside to brace against the brick wall.

As we didn't have any work surfaces that would resist planing forces and I was thoughtful enough not to put holes in the drywall of his garage.....

So, I use some 1/4 ply as a batten to support the end of my piece of pine.

Well, I'm happily planing away, loving life when........ smack.

I just happened to let my left hand pinky finger slip over the front toe of the plane and took a full force shaving/pass that drove the plane into my pinky and into the brick wall.

For those who wonder, jumping up and down does really help a sore finger......

So, lesson learned :eusa_clap

I think this is how the finger pull was invented. Ouch! Good thing it didn't go beyond "sore".

First off, I am glad that no "Jim parts" were broken. You mention that a lesson was learned but failed to spell it out, I am taking the liberty of doing so ......"Do not plane wood while reading a magazine and drinking iced tea at the same time" :rotflm:
One cannot overemphasize the importance of good plane management. (otherwise you might smash a finger)
