The local Lowe's stores around here appear to be phasing out their Delta dust collection equipment. I picked up a collection system kit for around $40 and I've got my eye on a 1.5 HP 1 stage collector and a light/filter combo. They usually discount these around 20% for a few days and then drop them to less than half price.
Since I'm working in & around Charlotte, I troll their stores for bargains. Anybody have any opinions on this equipment? I don't have much experience with it and I've probably inhaled a piano in sawdust in my lifetime.

P. S. I also want to add a Veritas centrifuge from leevalley.com in the system to make it a '2 stage', albeit improvised. These are glorified trash can lids to fit Rubbermaid Roughneck 20, 30 gal. trash cans & up to 55 Gal drums and can be bought in clear acrylic. Any thoughts?

The Delta 1.5 hp has been picked by Fine Woodworking as the top choice in two articles in the last few months.

We use an older model Delta 1.5 hp in our shop and it does real well. We recently upgraded to a 1 micron bag and I think it is doing even better. You may want to consider a similar filter.

I picked up the delta air filter/work light fer 80 ducks on clearance. It was marked 160 and i asked if the manager would be willing to further mark it down. He said half if you take the display stand. Sold. Always ask at lowes if they will further discount an item. This is not the first steal I have wrangled. Good luck!

I use a trashcan separator, and I think it is a good think to have. Especially in line with a planer or jointer where large volumes of chips are being created. The can is easier to empty than the DC bag, and it holds much more :eusa_danc :eusa_danc

Which store did you go to Dennis? I live in Indian Trail and need some things for my DC.

I have the smaller delta dust collector and the trash can "pre-filter" but it is about worth what I paid. It is necessay for the drum sander and practically worthless for everything else. If I bought the ceiling filter/light it would more than likely stay clogged due to the big "dust bowel" in my shop. Every so often I will open the garage doors and fire up the leaf blower to clean up. I asked some of the guys at the local Woodcraft store as to whether or not to buy the bigger Delta dust collector and they seem to think it would be a waste of money and probably better to save my money and buy a cyclone (about $1,200 and up).

Went by 3 Lowe's today. Providence Commons (NC16 & Ballantyne Commons Parkway) had 1.5 HP 1 stage @ $298, Ambient Filter/Light @ $139. Rock Hill (Dave Lyle Blvd.) had 2 collection systems (pipes, gatesa, clamps, etc) @ $69. McMullen Creek inPineville had the ambient Filter/light @ $139.
These persimmons are still a little bitter. Better let 'em stay on the tree awhile longer and then give it a shake!
