I guess we should probably expand our definition of politics.

Saw something on WBTV news earlier about the EPA wanting to tax cow farmers for the methane gas emissions of their livestock. Tried finding it on their web site but couldn't locate it. Maybe someone else heard the same story. Our govt. is DEFINITELY broken and crap, (no pun intended), like this is gonna kill off more American jobs and drive prices higher.

On the 20th or before, I would have deleted this thread in a second. The part in red is the primary and immediate offense. But, first I don't want to undermine the staff, the day after, i am no longer the Webmaster:eusa_danc

I also want to allow you guys to have some degree of flexability. So I am not directing you to delete the thread, but rather to think about what I am saying and to have a no tolerance interpretation of our poltical policy, just like we do with religion.

If you don't see that sentence in violation of our political policy then perhaps we need to refine our definition.

First of all: Yes, this post should be edited.

I find the statement "Our govt. is DEFINITELY broken and crap" to be offensive. Not sure if it's political. The second part, "like this is gonna kill off more American jobs and drive prices higher" is very political (trade agreements, immigration, foreign policy etc.).

I don't think there is anything wrong with our policy. It just needs to be more enforced a little better. I will help remind everyone of that.

At some point you have to not worry about offending people. We have to give in a little.

For example people say Happy Holidays so they dont offend people with saying Merry Christmas. To Me Im offended when people say Happy Holidays Because they are Taking the Christ out of Christmas. SO if some are offended by saying Happy Holidays and some are offended by saying Merry Christmas do you just ban any holiday referals Period ?

Some things should be ok some are not

I certainly see it as a violation of policy and don't think we need to refine our definition. I don't think I saw that post, but I have been guilty of letting something slide because I was in a hurry or whatever. :confused_

One could say the statement posted in RED is not clearly political, but IMO it still falls into the category of inflammatory . . . inviting controversy and rebuttal.

When I first read it my take was the topic was border line. I overlooked the inflammtory statement. The policy is fine as stated.

Agreed. You can't worry about everything and everyone. Merry Christmas is fine with me. Although I would not be offended if someone said Happy Holidays. The intent is more important to me than the actual words.

I use both. Merry Christmas to wish someone a merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays when combining the Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations.

I edited one of Dragon's comments earlier and should have hit this one as well. Here is a copy of my PM to him when I edited his thread (he had a spurious remark about Al Gore after the last sentence)

I've been called an old f*** many times and if you get downwind of me after a good bowl of chili or boiled cabbage...............

I don't buy into that carbon footprint hullabaloo any more than I can grow feathers and fly. [I deleted a political statement here]
In response to your Post (as quoted above) in the Manure Tax thread:
David,

I removed the last sentence concerning Al Gore from your post as it was decidely political. Please understand that this thread is very close -- if not over -- the boundary and may well get closed.

He sent a PM back which I also replied to:

David,

It is very simple. This is a woodworking forum. If members want to post political items, this is not their website. The same hold true for religious items. I suggest you read the Site policy (or re-read it; it is at the left end of the lower Brown menu bar) and I think you'll get a full explanation of what is allowable and what is not. The site has always had this policy and it is very friendly as a result. I trust you understand. Thanks.

First of all, in the written policy, there are special exceptions for Merry Christmas, etc. so that is not an issue. This concept that Happy Holidays is used so that we don't offend people is just not what I intend or most of the people I know who use it, intend. The idea is to recognize that in this great nation and in this great craft, there are people of many different backgrounds, beliefs, etc. So if I say Happy Holidays,I am simply saying that I don't know or CARE what your beliefs or background is, but I want to wish you the good tidings of this wonderful season.

Or I just might might be lazy, and starting around thanksgiving use the phrase to mean Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, & Happy New Year.

Or it could be some combination of both.:gar-La;

Anyway, to those of you who are Christian, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. To those of us who are Jewish, Happy Hanukkah & Happy New Year. To those of you who are xxxxxx Happy yyyyyy

So in summary

Happy Holidays

In case you all didn't notice, I closed the thread and shortly thereafter got a very nice PM from Kyle who thanked me (meaning the staff) for helping keep the forum free of this type of inappropriate thread. He really appreciated our efforts.
