This most likely could also be used as a vac. chuck too.

Seems like a good deal! I've been looking for an affordable 220 compressor. Sent an email, wish me luck.

He wrote back saying this was an 8 Gal compressor and he didn't know CFM rating. I asked if he had a model number but I've not heard back yet. Still seems like a pretty good deal for small shop compressor but I don't want to drive all the way out to WF to buy something that isn't that useful even if it is a good deal. Thoughs?

Thanks,

Travis

I'd think that if it runs, hold the pressure, and you have 220V at your place, I'd jump onto it.

I wouldn't be so quick. A better buy, IMHO, is the unit listed on 04-02, "Air Compressor 2 HP for $125". This is a Sears 2.0 HP, 220 V, 20 gal compressor. I've have the exact same model for years, without a minutes trouble.

Hmmm, a bit more that I have to spend but it does look very interesting.... The other seller responded: "It is a airstar 5, made by airtechniques, originally had 2 motors, 1 went out."

What do you think that means? Had two motors? Do ya'll know anything about airtechniques?

I do happen to be quite familiar with Air Techniques- they're a dental equipment manufacturer and generally considered to be of very good quality. Being a dental compressor those are designed for more or less continuous duty- you'll find these have much greater longevity than consumer grade equipment. I had a different model compressor from Air Techniques in my office for 7 years and never had a lick of trouble, and the meter showed close to 3000 hours of run time on it when I sold the practice.

What he means about the second motor is that is a 2 head compressor. The 4 black rubber feet looking things on top are the mounts for the second head which was removed. Given that you wouldn't be using it for continuous duty the lack of a 2nd head shouldn't be an issue (2 heads allows for the frequent high throughput you'd see on a compressor in a multiple user environment- you can't have your pressure dipping and spiking).

One other nice thing about dental compressors is (in my experience) they're somewhat quieter than a consumer grade compressor of similar capacity.

If it works that's a heck of a deal- at that price you can't go wrong (new they're $1000's). And if you don't want it I might jump on it :D

-edit- actually please let me know if you decide to pass on it 'cuz I'll definitely snap it up if you don't.

Brian - sorry for the slow response. Was involved in a funeral for a church member most of Wednesday and at a conference today so I've not been on much. I'm going to pass on the airtecniques so it's all yours if it's still available. I'm really looking hard at the compressor Bruce suggested but that's a bit out of my budget so I'm not sure it's going to happen this month.

Thanks,

Travis

Thanks for letting me know, just went and picked it up. Definitely a steal and a major improvement on my current one. It's been a good day- my Woodmaster 18" planer came in today too <gloat> :D
