Cleaning glue from K body Camps

Anyone have suggestions for cleaning Tite Bond glue on K body clamps. Yes, I got a little sloppy and didn't clean them immediately
and now after scrapping the glue off there's this nasty black marks that can be lightly sanded off. But was thinking there may be an easier way with some sort of solvent to make them look like new again.

Youccan try scratching it off with an old dull chisel, but i'll tell you how I do it. I figure the clamps are tools, and don't have to look pretty all of the time. I just run the handle portion along the bar till it all breaks off. Thats what I have found to be the easiest solution. You may still see glue marks with that method, but the clamp will function as normal.

I scrape it off with a putty knife. What remains is "character".

I have gotten a little better over time at preventing excess squeeze out by applying less glue and less clamping pressure.

Before we get too far down the path, PVA adhesives can be removed by boiling hot water. Regular hot water out of the pipe will also soften it but more slowly. Wrap a wet rag around the area with the glue. Using a heat gun or an infrared heat lamp will also soften it so it can be easily removed.

For the future, apply a coat of paste wax to the bars. Dried glue will pop right off. Also, make a "tent" of waxed paper and put it over the bars to catch any glue drops.

Your question got me curious so I asked Franklin. Here's the reply:

Thank you for your inquiry. The best way to weaken the strength of dry Titebond III is with heat. Raising the temperature of the glue with a hot air gun or strong hair dryer will help to soften or weaken the strength and aid in removal. I hope this information is helpful to you.
