We counted up about 1500 BF of Black Walnut in logs that recently came in, that we need to sell. Most of the logs are 8' long. If anyone is looking for BW please reply to this post, specify 1/4 inch scale thickness starting @ 4/4. Price is $1.50 a BF and the boards will range in width from 6 ~ 12" wide rough cut green fresh off the log.

Thanks

~ 1500 BF BW forsale.

I may have worded this incorrectly and wanted to specify that it's not the entire 1500 BF, than needs to go to one person, although that would be ok too. We would be more than happy to do smaller BF orders. And I would be more than happy to make a delivery to Raleigh 1000 BF at a time.

I'm not trying to shock anyone or convince anyone to buy, but the truth of the mater is, it's going to be hard if not impossible to find these low prices again. Walnut logs are going through the roof and we just so happened to get these at a really good price which we pass on to you, I highly doubt we will get a good deal like this on BW again anytime soon.

Please note this is for ncwoodworker.net members only.

Thanks

Re: ~ 1500 BF BW forsale.

Wanted to let everyone know about 1/2 of this is now sold, so to be on the safe side there's about 500 BF left.

Thanks

Re: ~ 1500 BF BW forsale.

Jeff,

Can you add two 12" wide 8' long boards of 8/4 BW to my Picnic Order? I estimate that adds 32 BF to my prior order for 150 BF of 4/4. Thanks, Rob

Help me out here, how long on average does it take freshly cut Walnut to air dry? I'd like to get in on this deal, but space is a consideration... :-? TIA

The rule of thumb is a year for 4/4 lumber to air dry to around 12% MC. But having a moisture meter and checking the stack often is smart, it might dry quicker depending on airflow, and ambient humidity.

Dave's got a pretty good handle on it, like he said: Quicker if there is good air flow, humidity and temperature. With the weather warming up it may go quicker depending how you do it.

I stack my bunks running north to south and in a semi shaded area since more of the wind comes from the west and I don't want the sun beating down on them on hot sunny days and drawing to much mostiure out of the boards in one day. Just make sure you cover the bunk with something to keep the rain out. Maybe something like this (plug for Woodguy, right pretty John :-D):

Once the bunk MC is down to around 12 ~ 14%. I bring in the shop re-sticker along with a dehumidifier and cover with a tarp making a small tent. I run the dehumidifier till I reach 6~8% MC usally a few weeks to a month. This works well with smaller loads but is not practical for larger loads.

This is one way to dry lumber there are many more...

Just my 2 cents

Thanks Jeff and Dave. Jeff, do you offer any kind of kiln drying services for an additional charge? I haven't seen you mention it, but I thought I'd ask.

Sigh... drying is a BIG of a challange for me, there is NO kiln within 50 miles of me that I have found. I've been calling around looking and asking and nothing close by. I completely understand the need to have lumber kiln dry. I even toyed around with the idea of building my own. One problem, not enough time, I got to many irons in the fire right now.

But I am going to do my very first Kiln Dry QS Sycamore lumber run, thanks to Scott.

Sorry

I picked up the 8/4 walnut from Jeff on Saturday...and I must say it is good looking stuff. It was great to meet Jeff and Mr. Garrett and to see their operation. I'll keep it stickered outside until its about 25% mc and then put in my attic to dry down. I'll let you all know how it dries in my attic. Thanks Jeff, good wood, good service, nice price.

John, I'm glad your pleased with the lumber, I try my best to adhere to my original goal of (Good Lumber @ Good Prices) if I ever get to the point where I can't do both, I sell my mill and related equipment and go find something else to play with.

Thanks
