Greetings to All Ye Good Men (and Ladies):

Not being satisfied with the "canned" finishes available at Lowes, etc., I recently decided to try French Polishing. Being basically lazy by nature I guess, I looked with dismay at all the steps involved in traditional French Polishing and decided to take a shortcut.

I purchased the Zinsser French Polish, along with the other required items, and gave it a try. (And it was not inexpensive) Wellll, let me say that I'm not exactly new to woodworking, or to finishing, but darned if I can get this stuff to come out as it should. Has a good luster, but I have a lot of trouble with swirl marks not leveling out and thingies underneath the surface that look like little bits of sawdust or something, but I know they are not.

I have followed Zinsser's instructions to the letter but cannot achieve the glass smooth deep luster I should be getting.

Anyone had any experience with this stuff? What is the secret to using it successfully.

Al
