As follow up to an earlier discussion on boxes, here's another (my previous post described #2 in the series):

"A Small Box for Precious Memories #1"
Bubinga, Tinted Maple, Ebony, Silver Leaf and Leather.
5.75" x 5.75" x 4.0"

Some design notes:
Box sides are 5/16" thick, corners mitered and epoxied. Top is ~1/2" thick, 1/16" overhang and routed profile on bottom. That profile is painted black to frame the silver leaf and to accentuate the shadow line between top and box. Barely noticable, the top has been sculpted for downward sloping corners and pores tinted blue. I like the hint of blue against the red hues and then seen again in textured leather on the underside of the box. The carved Ebony knob and Bubinga sides were polished and waxed.

I made a total of 4 in this series and then a couple variations with remaining bubinga scraps. I'm pleased with the results.

Comments and critiques are welcome.

Mike, beautiful work! Recently, I have been working on some small boxes and I have found them to be far more challenging than most of my larger projects. I am nowhere close to your level of craftsmanship, but I am trying. Thanks for sharing your work!
