Help with blotchy stain on maple

Stained hard maple with Minwax Provencial (oil based)
Did all the steps (I thought) to prevent blotchy.
Need advice to best remove stain and start over.

There are many takes on how to minimize blotchy stain. If I suspect the wood is prone to blotching I sand to 180, apply a liberal coat of seal coat cut 50% with denatured alcohol . Then knock down the raised grain and proceed with stain/topcoat. If you’re not happy with the results you’ll need to sand down and start over.

Blotchy spots are usually due to uneven sanding or grain change that needs extra sanding.
