Working on a Delta 31-460 6" disk/ 4" X 36" sander combo machine. It needs a new motor that costs $173.00, plus shipping. A new Delta SCM-500 from Amazon is $99.99 with free shipping. This is latest version of same machine. Please, please, help me decide what to do, repair old, or order new? All opinions welcome. HA,HA!

If I were spending your money, I would get the Delta-31-396 instead of fixing that old one, or getting the SM-500.... but with my money, the SM-500 looks pretty good.
I think that before I could answer that, I would need to know a few things.
First off...
How much use did the old motor get?
How long have you had the old setup?
How much wear is showing on everything else?
What type of warranty comes with the new unit and how important is that?
How much can you sell the old unit for on Craigslist (with the bad motor) to offset the price of the new unit and balance things out?
How hurried are you? Maybe you can find another unit on Craigslist for less than even the motor.
Lastly..if you are considering the new unit anyways....is there something that you have always not liked about the old one? Maybe time to look at some competitors?
