This was the short end of a beam that was lap jointed together as the base of a barn on my property. It is 4" x 6" and about 3 to 4 foot long.
It has been waiting for a purpose and I'm thinking about splitting it to use on the face vise I bought last weekend. I assumed it was white oak, but had never really looked that close till tonight. It only took about 15 seconds with my belt sander to smell the resin. It is amazing how long this stuff will survive in the weather.
