Froe whacker

Bought a nice antique froe at the picnic. On the greenway trail this morning I saw a piece of a limb from a fallen beech. Carried it home and there was this nice froe whacker inside. The heft seemed ok when I used it to split some kindling.

Fun to see what lies just below the bark if one uses the right tools to get at it.

It is obviously hand forged and used for a while. Any idea how old it is?

It came from tennessee i think. I've had it for a while ,but can't guess on the age.

Mike the froe is made to use on green wood. The wood in the photo looks fairly dry making the splitting go much slower.

Those are my chopping blocks in the pic. I was splitting silver maple cut about a month ago.
