Just saw the news No injuries reported when fire rips through Durham cabinet business regarding this morning's fire at the Garland Woodcraft Company.

From the article, "The fire started in a room where chemicals and varnishes are kept, officials said....It's unclear how the fire started."

There are several strategies for managing flammables in a wood shop, but this is a good reminder to all of us (including myself) to make sure we're staying on top of this. Dispose waste and used products and applicators, and use standalone sheds/buildings or 1-hour rated cabinets for large quantities of flammables with positive room ventilation.

It's a shame to see an entire shop go up in smoke. I know it has happened to some of us here, too, so let's all spend a few minutes this holiday making our shops a little safer!

You have to click "continue to site" to get past the ad, the web works better on a desktop with an ad blocker! (Pure evil that they don't have ad blockers for mobile versions of Chrome.)
