I forgot to mention the 8/4 thick pieces were flat sawn consecutively off the cant, which means they are book matching. Also they are thick enough to resaw into 4/4 thick boards for further book matching if you would want to. The 8/4 actual thickness floats between 2 1/8 and 2 1/4. This is lumber from only one tree so the color and characteristics should be close.

The saw dust came off the mill more red than anything, unlike black walnut, which comes off green when wet. I'm not 100% sure what kind of walnut this is, some folks that have seen it said it's english walnut and 2 people said it's claro walnut. I don't know what kind of walnut it is because it came off of an old farm house yard and I cut it down before it leafed. Since I have no positive identification and to be on the safe side I'm calling it black walnut. Even though it's a lot more red than any black walnut I've seen before.

I first was going to trade it for some wide plank T&G flooring, but the flooring dude didn't have enough made up so that killed that deal. Then I thought about letting it air dry for a few months and pay Scott to finish it off in the kiln and make a four poster bed with matching night stands, but I have way to many irons in the fire right now to even think about that.

Anyways, it's unusual walnut that's looking for someone to show off it's beauty. I posted a thread a while back when I cut it, asking what kind of walnut it was http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7966

I was also real impressed by the way this walnut looked when I racked it, so I snapped a bunch of pics there in my album here: http://www.ncwoodworker.net/pp/showgallery.php?cat=890

Thanks
