Collet for Craftsman router model 315.17460

I've made them on a metal lathe when I didn't have youtube to tell me not to. They worked but were a pain to make. Hardened and ground is best, of course, but it can be made on the lathe and will work, at least for a while. If you've got to hire it done, then forget it. It will take at least...

    Belt sander tracking

A good crown Crowning is best done on a metal lathe to be sure that the outside edges don't grab the belt. Below is a Delta 6x48 drive drum being crowned on a metal lathe. The few splotches of dents won't matter. Below is the crown profile I used for years.

    Bed rail repair

My experiences also. Replacing both rails with solid oak lumber would be ideal for that questionable design.

I REALLY hate shop clean up day

I once picked up an abandoned school shop band saw to be restored in late August. Three hour drive home. Unloaded it and set it upright. Two days later I got to work on it. After doing some upper disassembly I got around back to get at the motor. I opened the door and found a black widow...

Wow. Having tools of that vintage that you use regularly must be a real treat.

What is your oldest tool ?

"regularly" is the kicker qualifier. Like many, I have old tools that get occasional use, but there's only one in my shop that gets used regularly. My 1930's Hammond Glider.

    New Laguna Drill Press

Drilling out a stuck screw with a left hand bit or custom ground bit is one occasional use. Tapping is a big deal so some that do it often.

    New Laguna Drill Press

That digital readout display looks interesting, particularly the auto reverse button. That could be used for tapping, I would think.

    Core Box Plane ID

A Collins core box plane it is. Thanks for that link. https://www.lumberjocks.com/threads/the-collins-core-box-plane-was-patented-10-years-before-the-stanley-57.202378/ I hadn't thought about patternmaker suppliers. I've got an old Kindt-Collins catalog somewhere but I doubt if I can find it.

    Core Box Plane ID

Just for fun, here's what my #57 looked like. It was in fairly good shape for being as old as it was.

    Core Box Plane ID

This broken example of a core box plane has been gathering dust in my shop for years. I can see no identifying marks on it. The hinge is broken and there is no cutter or cutter cap. Anybody know the maker? I've had the much better Stanley #57 but eventually sold it.

    I almost missed it...

In 1997 I installed one that I got from a lumber/millwork company auction. I thought it might be worn out so I thought I would use it until the half nut failed. It is still going strong and is the only vise I have on the workbench. I later found a quick acting 10" Wilton that I kept for its...

    Good Info DIY Mortise Jig

There were a lot of 3D printed parts there. A regular mill with a digital readout could substitute for the CNC router. Overall, that is a cleverly designed DIY mortising jig.
