I have a bunch of sweetgum pieces I had split out with wedges and froe to make spindle blanks that had anchor seal on the ends and had been in the attic for several months. I had zero loss from checking, but twist and distortion rendered some pieces less than desirable as spindle blanks. I was about to toss this one into the scrap bin when I picked a pencil and drew the spoon and decided to giv it a try. it's almost more a scoop; it will hold 2 or 3 tablespoons. I don't have a good hook knife and my gouge work needs practice; I dug too deep in spots. But it was a few minutes well spent. Finish is mineral oil.
