I don't know if this is correct, I call it a boatmaker's joint. Fibers depressed, then plane flush. When water hits, the depressed area swells proud -- well, that's the way it's supposed to work. 
I've made a couple of these and they all leak a little, but eventually seal up.
Been a while since I've done any dovetails by hand.
