Recent Rigid and Sears miter gages don't have a flat bottom and can cause unintended compound cuts when the gage is set to other than 0 degrees.
Check face to table for square:
On the Rigid and Sears miter gages a toilet bowl flange bolt washer was just the right thickness. Ground the washer to fit on the bar and just contact the backmost part of the bottom.
Resulting in a squared miter gage face.
