I am trying to raise some dents in a SYP bed that has been finished with shellac. I have been using a hot iron to heat a damp cloth over the dented area. I am successful at getting the dent up.
But... the shellac tends to distort (i.e. melt). I then end up spending more time than ever re leveling and adjusting the color. Ack this is no fun. :tinysmile_cry_t:
I expected blushing I can handle that problem easily. If only that was my only problem.

So what works for y'all? :help:

Jerome,

As I'm sure you are aware, it's better to work out the dents prior to finishing. If a piece gets dented after all the finishing is done, well I guess what you are doing is about the only option you have. At least shellac is easily repaired; much more so than a lot of other finishes. Not sure there is a sure fired way that will do the repair and not mess with the finish.

In our shop, we sometimes used an old hypodermic syringe with a fine needle. Inject hot water through the finish in the center of the dimple.

Of course, you need to know a doctor to get a syringe.
