I put my new HF lathe through some paces this weekend. Turned a Cherry bowl and a couple of pens. The HF lathe is like a Cadillac to me after what I was working on. I highly recommend it to budget minded beginning turners. But the greatest thing was my new Oneway Talon chuck. I realized that I'm not a bad turner, I was just using a really bad chuck. The Talon held despite some minor catches, and performed beyond my expectations.
Here's the result of my new lathe trials:
Funny thing is now I have a bigger lathe and this is the smallest bowl I've ever turned. 6" dia. and 2¾" tall. Plain ordinary Cherry.
308 casing pen (thanks Nick for the casing and not loading it for me :-D ) with mineral stained Poplar top.
A little pen blank alchemy coming out of the lab. Jeff's... curly Sycamore cut on a 45° bias, and Walnut veneer.
Thanks for looking :icon_thum :icon_thum :icon_thum
