I have some projects coming up that I plan on using edge glued 3/4 MDF. Anything different I should know about ? I have edge glued wood before but never MDF. :wsmile:

I dunno ... I just use regular Titebond glue the few times I've glued MDF. In theory it could "swell", but I've never noticed it (just don't go heavy on the glue). I would, however recommend using biscuits or something for strength. I don't think an edge-glued MDF will be very strong.

Never been a problem for me just using normal wood glue. Just treat it as any other structural joint and make sure it has adequate support if its own integrity is not enough. If you are veneering over it I would wait a few days to make sure any swelling of the fibres has occurred and then sand flat.

Some folks double coat it- put one coat of glue on, let it set mostly, then add a second coat.

I use only one coat when I build torsion box tables. I have never had a problem.

You don't say what your project is or exactly what you mean be edge glued. So, let me just make this point. Edge to edge joints and edge to face joints are not anywhere near as strong as they would be with solid wood. Biscuit joinery was developed in Europe specifically to strengthen MDF joints. So, I recommend, biscuits, dados, dowels and other strengthening fasteners if the joint will be put under much stress.
