I picked up a set of marking guides at a neighbors 'moving sale'. He said they came from Garrett-Wade, so I did some poking around and found them at:

What I found interesting was the note on the web page about the markings on these things:
Does anyone know what the "particular Japanese methods of work" mentioned on the Garrett-Wade site might be? Or where an english version of instructions for using these guides for more than marking 90/45 degree angles might be found?
Thanks,
Len

From playing around with them, I suspect the markings relate to laying out mortises and tenons of some sort."The metric markings on the edge are specific to particular Japanese methods of work and do not affect the utility of the angles for marking-out, which is the main use of this tool."
