I'm glad you asked. I have looked at the pic off and on over the past few hours trying to figure it out. I was thinking it was for marking 45 degrees. A center finder sounds pretty cool.

DaveO whacked the hammer directly on the enlarged portion of the nail.


I draw 3 lines spaced about 120° apart and the center of the tiny triangle is close enough for my crude work.
