I haven't posted this in a while, so I thought I would. Go to The Big Bearing Store's web sight (thebigbearingstore.com) and look for the article on how ball bearings are made. Interesting reading.

That is interesting. Also explains why bearings are relatively expensive.
I find bearings to be INEXPENSIVE. You can buy quality bearings for less than $5 from mail / internet sources. Most manufacturers have gone to bearings from China. Delta charges about $20 for 6203's, and I buy them on sale for about $2 each from Reid Industries. Both made in China. With the exception of routers and shapers, most WW applications are low speed. One thing I find funny is to hear someone say a Uni is better than the Delta contractor's saw because it has better bearings on the arbor. They both use the same bearing (6203's.)
